In the continued effort to acquaint MSC Malaysia Status Companies with deeper understanding in Intellectual Property (IP), the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) organises regular IP programmes for MSC Malaysia Status Companies.
The programmes consist of firstly, MSC Malaysia IP Workshops which seek to provide practical guidance to MSC Malaysia Status Companies on IP issues such that they are in better position to ascertain the steps required to be taken to properly identify, protect, manage and exploit their intellectual assets.
The MSC Malaysia IP Workshops are complemented by the MSC Malaysia IP Clinics, a pre-arranged one-on-one 30-minutes session between MSC Malaysia Status Companies and IP consultants.
Thirdly, the MSC Malaysia IP Guide containing basic information on IP has been updated and is now available.
Lastly, the MSC Malaysia IP Grant Scheme is aimed to provide financial assistance to qualified MSC Malaysia Status Companies by defraying some of the costs incurred in obtaining certain IP protection. The IPGS is designed to subsidise between 50%-70% of the initial cost of filing the IP on a reimbursement basis, for filing made locally or abroad.
MDeC recognises that IP plays a critical role in the success of MSC Malaysia and the overall information and communication technology (ICT) industry. The importance placed on IP is evident from MSC Malaysia Bill of Guarantees No. 6, "To become a Regional Leader in IP Protection". |

| MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminar |
|
MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminar is focused on introducing basic IP concepts and issues to companies to enable them to properly identify and protect their IP assets.
The MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminar seeks to provide practical guidance to new and growing MSC Malaysia Status Companies on essential IP concepts and assist them in identifying and protecting their intellectual assets.
In conjunction with the MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminar, the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia ("MyIPO") will be conducting the Mobile IP Check to assist companies to conduct patent and trademark searches. Companies will also have the opportunity to meet with and seek guidance from MyIPO.
The MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminar, to be held in Cyberjaya, is envisaged to comprise the following:
- "Subject Matter Presentation" - By an IP Consultant
- "Industry Presentation" - By an industry representative on its journey in IP protection and exploitation
- "Work Sessions" - Step-by-step guidance on how specific IP issues may be tackled
Two (2) separate MSC Malaysia Start-Up IP Seminars have been scheduled for 2009, as follows:
- IP Seminar (1/2009): Introducing and understanding Trade Marks, Industrial Designs and Copyrights IP - 31 March 2009
- IP Seminar (2/2009): Introducing and understanding Patents and Utility Innovations - 8 September 2009

| MSC Malaysia IP Workshops |

The MSC Malaysia IP Workshops succeeds the hugely popular MSC Malaysia IP Series of seminars which have been conducted since November 2004.
The MSC Malaysia IP Workshops seek to provide practical guidance to MSC Malaysia Status Companies on IP issues such that they are in better position to ascertain the steps required to be taken to properly protect, manage and exploit their intellectual assets. In addition, participants can also look forward to gain valuable insights from an industry player about its journey in IP protection and exploitation.
The MSC Malaysia IP Workshop will be held from 9am to 2pm. Each of the MSC Malaysia IP Workshop is envisaged to comprise the following:
- "Subject Matter Presentation" - Conducted by an IP expert
- "Industry Presentation" - Provided by an industry representative on its journey in IP protection and exploitation
- "Work Sessions" - Step-by-step guidance on how specific IP issues may be tackled
Two (2) separate MSC Malaysia IP Workshops have been scheduled for 2009, as follows:
- IP Workshop (1/2009): Commercialising / Exploiting IP - 24 June 2009
- IP Workshop (2/2009): Enforcing and litigating IP rights - 28 October 2009*

| MSC Malaysia IP Clinics |
|
|
The MSC Malaysia IP Clinics, which complements the MSC Malaysia IP Workshops, are designed to facilitate the linkage and access of MSC Malaysia Status Companies to IP services. It is an excellent opportunity for MSC Malaysia Status Companies to personally seek the views of IP consultants at pre-arranged one-on-one 30-minute sessions. Queries may be raised by MSC Malaysia Status Companies on issues such as how they can identify, exploit and capitalise on their IP assets.
The MSC Malaysia IP Clinics are scheduled on a fortnightly basis. It is only opened to MSC Malaysia Status Companies and admission is free, but reservation is required.
