Driving the High-Value Economy through ICT

The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is embarking into its third phase of the MSC Malaysia Initiative to support the nation's aspiration of becoming a high income nation that is both inclusive and sustainable.

Having made significant strides in increasing the economic impact and footprint of ICT for our nation, 2011 marks a new chapter for MSC Malaysia which promises more benefits not only for the IT players such as yourself but also for our citizens

The first phase (which began in 1996) was the initiation stage emphasising on visioning and physical infrastucture. The second phase which spanned (from 2004 to 2010) focused on the supply side – creating economies of scale and flagship applications.

MSC Malaysia Phase 3 builds on the foundation and successes achieved under Phases 1 and 2. Beyond contributing RM34.7 billion to the GDP over the Phase 2 period, MSC Malaysia also achieved the following milestones:

Despite the challenges of the global economy at the end of the last decade, MSC Malaysia concluded its second phase on sure footing. Because of the bold ICT initiatives and steps we took as a Nation, Malaysia today has become an equitable partner with other nations in the fields of ICT science, technology and innovation.

During this critical phase3, which will run from 2011 to 2020, MDeC will lead MSC Malaysia in championing the development of Malaysia's high-value economy by continuing to drive the uptake of ICT.

Phase 3:

Driving initiatives focused on talent, export and revenue growth

The first four years of the MSC Malaysia Phase 3 plan which run in tandem with the 10th Malaysia Plan aim to see MSC Companies achieve the following by the end of 2015:

What does these mean to you?

The ultimate goal of ETP is to create a high-income advanced economy that will provide quality income, quality life and quality opportunities for all Malaysians. MSC Malaysian Phase 3 rollout complements these aspirations. It offers a strategic view of the ICT sector, backed by a programme of action to enhance:

BUSINESS:

Establish Malaysia as a vibrant hub for creation of ICT solutions; leading to net exporter status

RAKYAT:

to ensure that people have the capabilities and skills to flourish in the digital economy, and that all can participate in digital society; and live a safe and qualify life

GOVERNMENT:
